The jay came back to visit. The magpie is pulling og the moss from the roof adding more lining to the nest in the chimney to keep it cosy.
Grey day again but extremely windy not quite gale force. 2 seagulls overhead riding the thermals
this is a blog about nature in a small town and the surrounding countryside.
The jay came back to visit. The magpie is pulling og the moss from the roof adding more lining to the nest in the chimney to keep it cosy.
Grey day again but extremely windy not quite gale force. 2 seagulls overhead riding the thermals
Wet windy foggy have been the order for the past few days . No squirrel no resident robin. No nothing really. But the two bowls of hyacinths indoors has cheered . Bowl of pale pink and bowl of blue and that gorgeous scent bliss!
Fog and fine rain greets the morning.no snow this xmas. Quiet as a mouse outside. Just a slight tremor of leaves on the bushes
A cloudy but bright morning sun is trying to shine through the clouds. A lone seagull sitting on the chimney pot his neighbour a pigeon on the tv aerial both looking around surveying what’s going around them, they both looked like they were having a chat .
The bight moon greeted the sunrise . It blew a kiss to the sun as the sun was rising and in return the sun blew a kiss to the moon and said sleep well.
The morning sun burnt the last bits of the morning fog. Then starlings decided to dive bomb the bird feeders scattering the seeds here there and everywhere. The pigeons just sat in the tree and looked , looked like they were shaking their heads in amusement.
A clear early morning soon turned into a misty damp morning. Seagulls have returned to their winter holidays lodging. Then some geese flew overhead honking as they went .
The dark morning was greeted by the resident robin singing in the tree next to the house. Sparrows looking under the eaves to see if it is suitable for nesting. I think so , as there been a lot of activity.
Just an other grey green brown day brightened up with a splash of orange and red berries. The pigeons seemed to disappeared hope they are ok. The chimney magpies seem to be comfortable in their chimney.
A cold Misty morning greeted the sunrise. Then a damp foggy late afternoon greeted the sunset,
Starlings fight among themselves but didn’t look like a serious fight , maybe just a squabble. Happens to us all. But they are such beautiful birds their iridescent feathers so bright and shiny. They look like they are covered in hearts.
Pigs running free in a field with sheep . Lovely to see. The silhouettes of two birds flying low added a mysterious air in the early evening as the sun was setting rather low , a peachy pink sunset was the order of the evening . A mysterious air can’t really explain
Saw a woodpecker not very often I see one but it was lovely to see and hear.
A cheeky wren decides to flit about in the garden.
Grey wet windy but not to miserable.
A magpie with more white plumage than usual on the roof top opposite . Really striking. Cold wind but a sunny December day . Found out where the resident robin nest is , it’s in the shed near the front door didn’t bat a eye when I peeked in .
The beautiful jay came to visit and came quite close to the patio door and looking at his gorgeous coloured feathers was a delight.
Dubious about travelling by train due to the weather, but did so . Saw a huge flock of birds in the sky twisting and turning. SW abandoned nest in the bare trees. Apart from that nothing much happened
Got a really feisty squirrel, it chases the cats away and the cats do run!
The water leak is an added bonus to the birds who are making the most of it , having a bath and drinking from it .
Look out! Low flying magpies and crows! One magpie nearly hit the window then later a crow flew low in front of a bus .
The early morning moon twinkled in the sky like if someone spilled a pot of multi glitter on it . Warm coral clouds wrapped up in grey clouds greeted the dawn. The resident robin singing away in his secret hideaway. The tall sweet chestnut tree hugging the street lamp giving a eerie glow.
The greyest grey day so far was brighten by having coffee outside the cafe watching the last leaves falling gently with Christmas lights twinkling in the background.
Up late due to oversleeping but to a bright sunny morning. Birds and squirrel still enjoying the peanuts. The seagulls are now back . Close your eyes and you think that you are by the sea with their noises they make
Sweeping up dead leaves day , still soggy , but at least it was bright and sunny. Birds enjoying the red and orange berries that have sprung up out of nowhere.
A huge dandelion growing in a garden pot, looks rather nice.
A dank miserable cold day, the last remaining leaves cling on the branches not wanting to fall. Birds are going home to roost . The leaves that have fallen lost their crunch , now they are soggy and slippery. A bit of blue sky tries to poke through the grey clouds but the clouds are having none of it and are covering it up fast .
A pale orange glow greeted the morning then out of nowhere a blue patch appeared. Squirrel and birds enjoying the peanuts.
Been given a huge bag of peanuts so squirrel and co are going to have a feast then found some bird food, still in date an other feast.
A lone bird sitting on a telegraph wire , maybe looking at at the stunning sunset. A early fox scouring the field for something to eat. A definite chill in the air but not a frosty chill more of a damp chill. .
The magpies have returned to their chimney pot . They are pulling up moss to make their nest most cosy. Dull weather and high winds again . Not even a chink of blue sky just grey low clouds.
A cloud stretched like an huge piece of elastic ready to snap. A metal bird flying underneath it. The squirrel doing acrobats like a pro it is in the trees.
Cold damp grey morning. Not seen the squirrel today. Nor have seen any cats . Birds are busy . Now the wind has got up.
A bright frosty morning making a change from the rain. The sweet chestnut tree is shedding its leaves so quickly that it’s nearly bare. A carpet of leaves cover the path tinged with a bit of frost highlighting the autumn colours of the leaves.
Cloudbursts and high winds for the morning, then clear blue skies and sunshine for the afternoon. Love the weather !
A new visitor to the garden a beautiful jay , had a good look round picked up a sweet chestnut then flew away.
An owl flies silently overhead back to his/her tree in the early morning just before the dawn breaks. The rain in the morning turned into a sunny afternoon. Pheasants was seen in the fields pecking away
The resident robin has been seen , hopped by the patio door had a good look in like it was saying I am back . Lovely to see you resident robin. He of the really red face and breast.
A forest of toadstools under the beech tree , no fairy ring to been seen. A mild October day . Leaves are now beginning to change colour and fall.
Toadstools fairy rings sprung up overnight all shapes and sizes. Birds roosting on telegraph wires chirping away quietly like they are saying night night.
A cold damp day, brightened up by the green prickly cases of the sweet chestnuts. 3 parakeets turned into 4 somehow landed in the tree squawking away . Heard the resident robin he stared to defend his corner.
A stand off between the squirrel and a cat who decided that it was it’s domain the garden . The squirrel sat on top of the small shed the cat down below, there was a staring match for a while then the cat backs off as the squirrel was ready to pounce on the cat.
Squirrel shook its tail and carried on hoarding the sweet chestnuts in next doors garden.
Wind and rain is the order of the day , the wind swirling and the rain also swirling and then the sun pops out giving a rainbow chance to shine
The early morning sun shines through the skeletons of bare branches and a slight mist adds to the errieness. The seagull sits on a post as the train hurtles pass and didn’t even beat a wing.
The squirrel loves its new domain. Watching it as it was opening a sweet chestnut case, so quick but delicate.
Walked into the spider web and the spider was not happy!
A weak afternoon sun trying it’s best to warm the very damp and chilly air .
The October chill is upon us. Bringing it’s welcomed scent some thing that cannot be described or even put in a bottle. Very windy though but the sun is out.
A spider has spun its web between the front wall and rubbish bin. So every time I go out I get greeted by the spider, good job I like spiders. And watching how the web vibrates in the wind, it makes me humble and waxed at nature.
The squirrel sits on top of the shed eating a sweet chestnut in peace, looking very content. The sweet chestnut tree has not done well this year, but there is enough for the wildlife. The beech tree has done well, crunch crunch when you walk over them. The resident robin is shining but not to been seen .
One happy squirrel, the cat next door has moved. The squirrel came out of the bush shook its tail and walked along the fence . It had a piece of sweet chestnuts in its mouth. . And the birds are now coming back into the garden now the cat has gone.
Autumn has come. That nip in the air is definitely a autumn chilly nip. Nights are drawing in early. The squirrel is now running back and forth now collecting the sweet chestnuts, not so many this year. Next door cat has gone they have moved so the squirrel and birds are having a good time going about their business. The magpies have returned to the chimney pot to start building a nest again . And I am sure I saw a bat fly past
An other beautiful September day. The evening before was just as beautiful as the sun was sitting. Beautiful shades of mauve purple and red. The soft glow of the moon shining into the bedroom. Sleep by moonlight! Bliss
A squirrel carrying a sweet chestnut case in its mouth while running along the fence. The late after sun is so warm and soothing but the evenings now draw in very quickly.
3 pigeons enjoying their meal of beech nuts. The first of the sweet chestnuts have fallen done looking like a green prickly baby hedgehog. Next door cat looks round her domain then falls asleep on top of the garden shed.
The early morning patter of rain give a refreshment to the muggy weather . Now back to the snail and slug dance again. Even the birds seem happy we have got rain. .
Helping doing someone’s garden a huge and I mean HUGE spider ran out from under a bush , didn’t scare me , it was really nice to see.
Grass , hedges cut. Lots of late blackberries trying to hide. Left some for the birds. Few plums left on the tree.
Late afternoon walk in the September sun, brought bracken turning brown slowly. Purple wildflowers which I cannot remember their name thought they were foxgloves but they are not. Most of the field are stubble now. The late sunshine brings a warmth which cheers everything up . The resident robin is heard but not seen , he is in camouflage mode. The smell of autumn is in the air.
A red admiral butterfly resting on the wheelie bin box catching a few gentle sun rays. Friend has some burrowing wasps in his strawberry patch. As it’s bang next to a plum tree whose branches are loaded with plums and so many have dropped so the wasps are having a fine old time. But fortunately in a way the tree is right at the back of the garden . But not sure what he is going to do with the wasps .
Children feeding the pigeons and ducks in the park all having fun, along came a dog and barked all of a sudden the ducks ran and the pigeons all at the same time flew up and unfortunately some left their calling card, on some people !
The vintage bus drove under the canopy of trees in the lane. The sunlight managed to get through in some places to lighten the dark green of the canopy. Then came upon a patch of thistles swaying in the wind. Just like days gone by when life was a bit slower.
The overgrown butterfly bush has quite a few butterflies on it . The contrast of the purple flowers and the butterflies is striking. A quiet breezy day otherwise. Even the birds are quiet. Not seen the roof scaling magpie or heard it for a while .
The handsome dog fox has made a returned visit and he is as gorgeous as ever. He just looked at me said hello and went back to sleep. But it won’t be long and he be off on his travels again. Making the most of his company. It’s really a honour that he comes back every now and again. Bless him.
Watching a heron watching the water for its supper. Two rarities, on the drive home a bat flew across the car, and in the field a bit further down the lane in an other field an owl swoops down catching its supper.
Sitting watching the sunlight dancing across the small waves on the lake. It seems like the waves and the sun was dancing a waltz. 2 rooks playing chicken on the busy road. Mad they are .
Rescuing a butterfly from a spider web. Watching bees collecting pollen from antirrhinums (snapdragons) . Weather at the moment ok . Sunny but not to hot just right.
A slow walk home from the bus stop on a beautiful summer evening . The air was so soft and fresh , the setting sun was gloriously warm perfect.walking under a canopy of leaves slightly rustling in the breeze. The cawing of some birds getting ready for the night. Overhead a flock of parakeets fly home to roost. The beech trees rustle their leaves as I walk past them , seem to say goodnight and hoped you enjoyed your walk home. Thank you beech trees I did enjoyed my walk home and goodnight to you both.
Near a bus stop is a small but dense undergrowth. Not very big it’s on the main road. Trees loom right over and the vegetation is very thick underneath the trees . It must be a haven for wildlife and insects. Must take more notice when I go pass on the bus. Interesting.
Warm and muggy. Very windy . Promise of more rain later. Watching a magpie scaling a roof it does it so effortlessly. While that is happening two seagulls are riding the thermals. The resident robin popped out had a good look then a drink from the water butt. Then decides to have a dirt bath.
Torrential rain has been the order of the day. But woke up to a sunny morning cool but nice. The ravens having a tug of war over some bread by the looks of things. Parakeets chattering to each other as they do a fly past. Broken branches and twigs . Puddles galore oh to be a child again in red shiny wellies and splash to my heart’s content.
Huge slugs so big that you can’t miss them and fat! Don’t like them but wouldn’t hurt them. Doing the snail dance so many especially on the garden path. But no worms yet. Rain again but gentle rain at the moment. Honeysuckle has got berries now looking rather cute with raindrops on them .
A grey dull rainy start to the day. Misty overnight. Warm but a lot cooler than of late more comfortable. Watching the birds at the feeders next door. Crows jays sparrows are the order of the day. One bird nearly flew into the open window but at the last minute lt flew up and around .
Looking at the small garden shed thinking that’s a big caterpillar on the roof, then the wind blew it and then I realised was a dead brown leaf.
A wonderful fresh start to the day not to hot at the moment . The thunderstorm really cleared the air . Watching a spider spin it’s web so delicate but strong nature at its best
A lone bird flies past fast as to get away from the raging storm. A huge thunderbolt decides to visits the back garden . One huge flash , bang then a huge clap of thunder. Now the sun is out playing with the rain wind thunder and lightning.
An extremely hot humid day thunder clouds sail pass but no thunder or rain at the moment. So quiet no bird song no insects of any sort not even a breeze just a slight puff of air every now and again.
A brown meadow butterfly settles on a nearby thistle. A ladybird/bug, hides amongst the grass blades trying not to get trodden on, and no it was not trodden on, went along it’s merry way. A baby snail on the old broken down washing machine sunbathing in the early morning light , before the sun really hotted up.
My friends the raven was sitting in the beech tree squawked hello as I passed underneath the tee and the pigeon nearby not wanted to be left out cooed hello. The resident robin just sat in the bush having a good look and listen to what was going on .
Walking up the path a little creature jumped in front of me , a grasshopper haven’t seen one of those for a long while. I remembered when I was young trying to catch them, never did catch them they was always to quick for me.
The promised rain came in the night. A bedraggled pigeon sits on the fence looking sorry for itself. A pheasant sits on a low slung wire stretching across the field, looking this way and that way. Seems to be happy
A walk-in a meadow and woods was very up lifting the rain that was promised never came. The rustling of the leaves as the wind moved through them was gentle . Saw peacock butterflies, red admiral butterflies and tortoiseshell butterflies. The different trees and the ivy what covered them was a sight to behold. The trickling of a stream and a gentle waterfall added to the music of nature , birds in the distance adding their song. A glorious day .
The Canadian geese family took a walk around the pond. Parents and five youngsters. They all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Then they decided to have a run and a flap off wings. Then walked around the pond again.
The resident robin has appeared after being away for a while, you could and still can hear him sing but not seen him. Haven’t a clue why he hasn’t been around. He has been missed.
The black cat decided to try and catch the squirrel but the squirrel turned round and went for the cat and in doing so startled the cat that the cat fell of the fence. It slunked home and the squirrel went on it’s way.
Snails slow? I don’t think so . You should of seen the snail going up the garden path , it was going at top speed. Maybe to get out if the rain. A friend has got molehills in their garden and they are pleased first time they had them.
Was joined by my friend the raven, hop skip and jump the raven not me! Up the path we both went up, he left me at my gate and cawing away he was . Few heavy rain showers but not as bad as it could be.
A very late sunset turned the sky into a pink and soft lavender heaven , then the grey rain clouds came bowling in. Rained all night. A single pigeon on the chimney pot cooing away delicately to itself.
A pleasant sunny morning for a change. The magpie couple were quite near me so I happened to see their lovely plumage. And with the sun shining on them the colours really stood out. The resident robin is heard but not seen . And everything nearly everything is overgrown with all 5he rain we had. But it looks nice seeing the wildflowers blooming even dare I say it the weeds some of them are actually pretty.
The usual rainy morning grey dull . Birds are not about. They have gone into hiding. But seen some cute small snails . Talking about snails they have decided that the recycling boxes are the best place to visit !
A muggy night, going to sleep with the sound of the owls in the background. The honeysuckle has decided to bloom again.
The evening was shrouded in a dense mist and the rain made huge puddles more like an autumn evening than a summer evening. The whole of the snail population or so it seemed was out and about on the paths leading to home and for once no snails were trodden on.
The grass verge between the dual carriageway was smothered in wildflowers the poppies stood out. A heron hiding underneath a bridge in a stream waiting patiently for its next meal .
A cat trying to camouflage itself amongst the honeysuckle but not succeeding at all but looks very happy and contented.
The magpie couple are both bouncing all over the roof opposite and every now and again they pick up some moss from the roof tiles.
An other bright and chilly start to the morning.
A thrush banging a snail on the garden path. Snails and slugs galore after the amount of rain we have had . First morning of no rain, bright but chilly and dampness in the air. Nice to see the sun again.
While putting out the recycling I rescued a ladybird/ ladybug from a spider web , put it in a place of safety free from any spiderwebs.
A bit of sunshine at the moment but rain promised again.
Two rare appearances a badger and a hare was seen but not at the same time. The hare so quick and fast sped along the field. The badger must of just woken up looked around and sniffed the air then slowly started to walk. Beautiful sights.
The rain came in early evening. And did it rain , never stopped till mid morning the next day. But not as cool as it could be. But enjoyed the rain the sound and the filling of the water butt. Birds are out singing now it’s a bit cooler.
A sparrow hawk decides to rest for a while in the old apple tree. The old apple tree that everyone say cut it down. NO! Is the answer, otherwise if I had it cut down I wouldn’t had the privilege of the sparrow hawk visiting. The closest I seen one really a stunning looking bird. It stayed about 10 mins then had a drink and flew off.
The old apple tree stays it is home to countless of insects a resting place for the birds and butterflies. And I am a tree lover and it still fruits so it’s staying. And now decide while writing this is to have a small wildflower patch near the apple tree . Perfect!
The promise of rain never came, even though the sky was heavily laden with very dark rain clouds. Thunderstorms are predicted in the next couple of days or so , have to wait and see if that happens.
Very quiet and still. Apart from a bee buzzing.
A quiet drive in the countryside. Watching tractors being busy. Hedge cutting in some places being done . A rook decides to hop skip and jump across the road. Driving in between the avenue of trees and seeing the horizon being very low in the near distance very awe inspiring. A soft sunset. Very calming.
A female blackbird pulled up some dead grass and flies away with a beak full . Gone maybe to make a new nest or reline the old one. Weather still very nice.
A rather chilly cloudy morning so far. The squirrel is back but just sitting on the fence having a wash. Having to do the annual snail and slug dance walking up the path, so far so good no crunching noise or slippery feeling underfoot.
The resident robin sings his evening song so crystal clear. The bumble bee what came in to visit has now left. A lovely sunset was had and a promise for a lovely day tomorrow. A squirrel decides to walk along the fence then take a short cut across the lawn.
After the mist the weather was beautiful. And again today the weather was beautiful. A dragonfly came to visit somewhere near must be a pond in someone’s garden. Bees are buzzing happily around the honeysuckle.
Watching the mist rolling in , it comes in thick then thin then it disappears then comes back.
Robins are said to appear when loved ones are near , I am blessed as I have resident robins in the back garden . Just an uplift I need.
Out in friends garden watering the allotment. Cabbages growing well, same as the carrots , leeks ,radishes, spring onions, potatoes, tomatoes , sweet corn . Runner beans are taking their time. Ladybirds galore. Red ants are about. Dark rain clouds rolling in very quickly.
Very sorry if you have got rain , this is due to the grass being cut front and back so my fault .
Bees busy in the honeysuckle and butterflies too. Front lawn now cut . The weeds are now gone looking good, but must think of ideas to encourage insects etc into the front garden. Thinking hat on. Tomorrow back garden to be done tomorrow
Lovely early summer weather. Butterflies galore. Birds busy as usual. Roses are out. Things are looking up.
The deers peered through the fence as the train trundled through . Sheep dotted about the fields. Crops growing nicely. Fishermen sitting quietly rods dangling fishing nets at the ready. Walkers in the distance walking in the fields. A sheep dog rounding up sheep.
Counted 17 trees in the small bit of green near me. So I really don’t live in a concrete jungle. Passed 3 horse chestnut trees fully in bloom. Come autumn there will be plenty of conkers.
First sunset for a while. A pink tinge in amongst the grey cloud. Nearby a pigeon decided to do a bit of jay walking in the road.
Early morning outside in nightie gardening clogs no coat on as it was warm, weather good no wind no rain, spraying weed killer. Didn’t want to but the pesky brambles are coming through from next door, they are insisting it’s my problem but they been dug up and weed killer put on ages ago, traced the bramble to next door garden but he won’t have it, but anyway weed killer put on and leant over his garden and sprayed some on his clump of brambles.
Apart from that a lovely time outside. Will go out early again Tom and do a few quite jobs!
The robin and his mate are sheltering from the rain in the honeysuckle bush. Rain thunder and hail. A ginormous slug in the recycling box made me jump, left the box and used an other box but carefully inspected it for slugs.
Still not good weather. But the honeysuckle looking good still. The robin and his mate still visit. The other birds are heard but not seen . Hopefully as we go into June soon the weather will get better.
An other robin kept me company for a while I like to think so as I walked passed a hedge, but he was defending his territory. Very aggressive he was. Rain and wind grey sky and sun. May is the new April.
Out in the garden doing some much needed tidying up, dodging the showers now it’s very windy. Unearthing a lot of insects and worms. The robin and his mate are having a fine time catching and eating the insects. But nice to see the resident robin’s mate . Worms galore snails and slugs are hiding . Now covered in insects of all sorts . Saw a ladybird just the one.
A caterpillar walks ahead of me a brown hairy one then I carefully pass it. The worms snails and slugs are having a wild time in this wet weather at the moment. Every time I want to go and start tackling the garden it rains if it was the fine rain no problem but it’s the heavy soak to the skin rain. But the honeysuckle is doing well. Looking really healthy.
The biggest clap of thunder I have heard for a long time, then all of a sudden silence then after that the rain just fell. A raven carried a leaf all over the roof, maybe a present for his sweetheart? A snail on its journey on the path to where I do nor know.
1 black lamb amongst the flock of ewes and their lambs. Fishing lake filled to the brim and die hard fishermen out in the rain enjoying themselves. Old dead trees cut but left to house the insects and small animals. Bluebells and a few primroses dotted about the woods. A rather large dark purple butterfly bush against a brick wall standing very tall and proud. Geese searching for food on the river banks . Going back to the trees , new ones are being planted in the spaces left by the dead and decaying old trees. Fields are all lush and green. Rain coming down so fast it’s blurring out the scenery. All seen from a train window.
The little birds drink rain water from the honeysuckle flowers ,nature’s drinking vessels. A grey start to the day , but if it turns out like yesterday later a late afternoon of sunshine going into the early evening.
The evening walk home was accompanied by the birds evening songs. As there was no traffic for a while the song of the blackbird and song thrush came through strongly. Pigeons were cooing in the background , the robin was singing the chorus and other birds sang along. And it was a lovely evening to walk home a quiet sunset added to a rare magical walk home.
A snail was hiding in the recycling bin , the first snail I have seen this year. A mixture of sunshine and showers at the moment. Still got fairly high winds. .
The honeysuckle is now beginning to blossom. Even though it is being battered by the strong winds.
A dainty spider’s web in the corner of the outside window is blowing gently to and fro , as it is in a sheltered space the spider is no where to be seen. But it’s around somewhere. No tasty morsel on the web at the moment.
The majestic cloud pretending to be a huge iceberg sailed in the sea of the sky behind were little clouds trying to keep up. The cat next door was nearly a new species a flying cat! From the fence to the fence opposite it jumped with its legs spread out looking like a flying cat
A bird having it’s night time bath in the pond, looking as it was having fun. A light spray of rain catches my breath , so unexpected but refreshing at the same time. 2 swans gliding up and the pond ducking their heads every so often in the water for a tasty night time snack.
The huge rain clouds came over quick the rain thundered down so fast. Then after we were rewarded with a spectacular sunset set. No photos or words could describe that sunset. A bonus a rainbow came into view.
The raven said hello again.
Still windy, but dry cold and the sun is shining. A bumble bee passes going on to pastures new. Notice that other trees have been taken out out and new ones are planted in their place. Good! We need our trees. The beech trees have shed more dead branches in the wind but they are looking good in their green leaves. Walking down the hill looking at the trees near me the colours of the different trees add beauty to the evening
The wind and rain came with a vengeance. Gale force winds. Rain coming down it hurt as I was walking home from work. Still very windy but no rain yet.
But on a happier note the honeysuckle is in bud and won’t be long before it’s in bloom. At the moment it’s swaying in the wind.
The shimmer of the bluebells in the woods. In the field dotted about were sheep and their lambs doing only what sheep and lambs do.
Sunshine and heavy showers was the order of the day. A chilly start to the month of may.
Went out to get the recycling box in and the raven flew into the tree nearby with a mouthful of food. Then he flew to his nest. I think I have made a new friend .
As I walked up the path the raven flew down and walked in the opposite direction, but he was close enough for me to say hello, and he cawed back. A neighbour walked pass and the raven flew away , neighbour gave me a weird look.
Where is the rain? They keep saying we shall have rain, but it’s not yet arrived. We had a spot or two, but nothing much yet. The rain clouds come over but pass over so quick even if it does want to rain it wouldn’t have chance to as the rain clouds zoom pass fast.
The grinding sound filled a rather grey dull day , it sounded like the grinder was matching the day. A tree stump was being removed as it diseased. But not quite in the same place but near an other tree was planted to replace the diseased one .
A brimstone butterfly flies past . The clouds at twilight looked like a pod of dolphins. Rain has arrived few spots but it’s here .
The raven walks up from one end of the path to the other as he does he pecks away at the grass verge, then he takes flight right over my head that I actually feel his wings and he caws as he goes past.
After a few lovely spring days the overcast weather came in . The sky is just grey and white no blue to be seen. But the weather people say that the sunshine will be along later.
No signs of the slugs and snails maybe it is still to cold for them or that they have gone elsewhere.
The scent of the bluebells wafted through the wood along side with the scent of the trees and grass added to to a nice gentle stroll through the woods. The breeze was chilly but it helped to carry the scent through the woods. The rustle of the leaves and the bird songs added magic to a lovely spring morning walk .
The early morning coolness promises to turn into an other beautiful day. The two beech trees are now in full leaf looking really magnificent. The pigeon in one of them thinks so too! It is cooing to his heart’s content.
A quiet sunny clear blue sky afternoon, nothing going on much apart from the not quite blustery wind and the birds riding the thermals.
A fine mist envelopes the dawn . Pink blossom petals falls to the ground like snowflakes covering the grass like pink snow. The honeysuckle leaves grows practically overnight soon it will be in blossom.
An occasional visitor landed on the chimney pot and the birds all hid and kept quiet , the sparrow hawk just sat and rested awhile. Then it flew of and the birds still kept quiet for a while until the sparrow hawk was in the distance and then the robin sounded the signal the all clear song and then all the birds either flew out or sang .
2 pigeons do a low fly past nearly flying into the window. Starlings under the eaves making a noise walking up and down. Pitter patter pitter patter. A cabbage white butterfly gracefully flies around and lands for a few seconds on the clump of dandelions.
Enjoying the beautiful sunsets on the way home from work. The glorious colours which you cannot really describe takes my breath away. A fine spring morning with a little dusting of frost makes way for a beautiful spring day .
A bee sits on a dandelion clock . The sliver of the new moon contrasts with the twilight coming in. The light and the dark.
The tulips are bending over due to the frost in the morning. But hopefully they will recover. The sun was a huge orange and yellow ball shining so brightly in the evening sky . The resident robin took a turn around his garden again then sat upon the honeysuckle and sang for a while.
A dark orange sunset accompanied the dark grey storm clouds an eerie feeling to the evening then the rain came and did it rain.
The tulips are still going strong. The frost did not harm them
The change from the really warm weather last week to the really cold but dry weather this week is a bit of a shock. Mother Nature seems to cope better. At the moment all is quiet apart from the 2 ravens who are on sentry duty . Hopping to and fro on the roof top .
Frosted red tulips greeted the morning. But even though they drooped a bit they still are looking good. The resident robin took an early morning stroll around the garden his territory then decides to take a drink out of the water butt. The cat sat on the fence watching and knowing that the robin knew that she was there.
A drive through the countryside at night was so quiet apart from traffic there was not any movement at all even no wind. Then in the morning the wind had decided to come back with a vengeance and fine rain.
A dusty pink hue covered the grey clouds when the sun began to set. A bird song was muffled by the oncoming traffic so didn’t find out what bird was singing. Then the evening crept in very quickly
After two really warm days it is now turned chilly but hazy sunshine. A lonely daffodil waves in the wind i the back garden , the honeysuckle leaves are growing fast. Going to have a good show of honeysuckle this year. Ans April is near !
The moon filled the bedroom with its soft glow and the stars twinkled brightly. Then dawn breaks to a dull and cloudy sky.
A beautiful spring day the best so far. Blossom is now coming out practically overnight. It’s wonderful to see the white and pink blossom. Not the usual Fox but this one took a short cut across the back garden.
The hour sprung forward but Mother Nature carries on regardless. A grey miserable day greeted the time change. And very windy. The resident robin sat on the fence and he has got more of a red face than the usual robins.
Wisps of candy floss like clouds move along gently across the inky black sky with the stars twinkling as they go by. The gentle wind adds a mystery to the night air. Then a car passes and breaks the mood.
Early primroses are beginning to flower. Road works churn up the grass verges showing the chocolate brown underneath soon thereafter won’t be any grass verges only concrete and tar.
Half the sky blue the other grey. Half the clouds white the other grey. The sun is and out at the same time. The honeysuckle leaves are bravely waving to the other leaves who are waving back in the chilly icy wind . Just noticed a clump of dandelions in the grass next to the path .
A reversal of the day the morning was really lovely bright and sunny. Now it’s grey dismal and definitely going to rain. The wisteria is peeking it’s yellow flowers over the fence .
Daffodils and crocuses are blooming freely. Adding their spring colours to an otherwise grey day. Lawn mower in the distance humming merrily. Trees are dropping their dead branches in the wind making room for new growth. The broken cactus leave has taken root .
The dawn was grey dismal and cold, but it turned out fine, a warm spring day sun out blue sky is in order. A metal bird flew through a cloud adding its trail to the clear sky. The raven sentry has stepped down now as an other raven has taken its place on the roof opposite
The long tailed tits are busy with there nests they are neighbours to the blue tit family and robin family , but not to near each other as such , they all got a bit of their own territory. Grey and white clouds moving very quickly across the blue sky so is it or isn’t going to rain , shall find out later
Grey raining very quiet no bird activity. Water butt is filling up again hearing the raindrops making music as they drop into the water butt and making small ripples .
The joy and unexpected treat of a song thrush in the garden, hearing it’s beautiful song and watching it for a while. The after it went 2 magpies came to visit and have a meal of the wild bird food left outside.
The wind is extremely strong, nearly knocking the magpie of the tv aerial. It caused a mini whirlwind sending all the dead leaves and rubbish into the air and landing it in a garden nearby.
The raindrops on the windows sparkle through the sun and the long tailed tits sit briefly in the apple tree.
Clumps of daffodils dotted the grass verges making the day more spring like. The low flying pigeon looks like a jumbo jet beginning to land. Or should that be a jumbo jet looks like a pigeon?
The long tailed tits are playing kiss chase. The hooded crow is more hooded than the rest of the flock, maybe the leader of the flock. Blue sky is not escaping today very overcast but dry
Cat on the black bin looks up at the parakeets in the tree chattering way to themselves then they fly off, the cat if it had eyebrows I am sure they would of been lifted as to say bird! Always chattering
A bit of blue sky is trying to escape from the grey clouds but it’s not going to escape. A seagull hovered onto the roof opposite and having a good look round.
The fog never really lifted. A real gloomy day then the rain came and did it rain the roads were like small streams merging into huge rivers no roads to be seen. Then the fog really came down giving the evening a eerie feeling to it.
A fine mist greeted the dawn. Crocuses are now beginning to open . The daffodils are now through adding their sunshine to a dull misty morning. 2 Canadian geese flew overhead honking away gently.
After a few days of lovely weather a grey dull morning was upon us then all of the sudden the sun came out for a lovely sunny afternoon.
Visitors galore . Blue tits great tits and a new one to me long tail tits. Finches of all sorts, then to spoil it all a metal bird in the sky!
And the Fox is still with me. Yay!
Just saw the resident robin in all his glory. His red breast and face such a beautiful shade of red. He is so handsome. Then the female robin did a dance on the fence so glad she picked him . The dance was like the very old song in and out the dusting bluebells
The rain dapples the fence quite attractively. The raven drinking from the water butt scolds a passing cat.
Sitting under a walnut tree with pigeons cooing away quite merrily in the walnut tree. And dead branches dropping all around in the wind.
The rain washed the last bits of snow away. So much activity going on with the birds , seen a pair of bull finches busy in the garden next door. A raven has taken to sit on one of the tv aerials not sure if it is the same one he acts like a sentry! Bless him , he does that most days so think it is the same one.
Accidentally disturbed the Fox when he saw it was me he settled down again. Saw a great tit in the apple tree having a good look around. The robin drank out of the water butt. Seagulls circling overhead and calling . The wind is bitter but fresh at the same time . Then came along the blue tit.
A seagull flies past low and steady as if not to drop the tasty morsel in its beak. The snow has stopped sun out and the birds are busy flying here there and everywhere.
The handsome dog Fox is back ! So lucky to have him come back and he knows he is safe here with me .
Feel like that I am at the seaside as the seagulls are circling overhead calling each other. Snow is still coming down but very small flakes. But it’s not that bad.
It has finally happened the snow has arrived highlighting the greens browns and greys beautifully. But it’s more wet snow but a thin layer of it covering the ground. And it’s bitterly cold out there
The water butt is overflowing gently adding more little streams to the ground soon be a river. An other magpie pair have claimed a disused chimney pot. They are busy putting their new home to right.
Across the field a small herd of deer just about can be seen . Not very often they are seen they keep themselves to themselves. Overhead a bird of prey hovers just before it pounces.
The moon was still out when the dawn turned into a lovely blue sky. The blue sky highlighted the silvery moon it sort of sparkled. Then the grey skies have come back over.
The full moon illuminates the early hours . A Fox walks by then stops sniffs the air then changes direction. In the distance is a owl hooting . And the wind blows gently for a change.
A pigeon landed on the tv aerial stretches out it’s wings when a sudden gust of strong wind nearly blew the pigeon of it.
A very quiet time at the moment apart from a wren visiting the sleeping honeysuckle. Back to grey skies and rain. Still enjoying my walk down the hill in the rain very refreshing. I know I am weird. Not seen the family robin but heard him. He and his family are part of my family.
After 2 glorious days blue skies bright winter sun, the snow came the sleet and then the rain came and went and now grey skies.
A raven being neighbourly popped round to see the the magpie family who are cosy in their chimney pot home.
The wind is still buffering around . Plenty of twigs and branches on the ground. Puddles have not dried up just as well as a sparrow was having a quick bath in one.
Even ducks will be using umbrellas today the weather is appalling. The robin sits on the fence post defending his territory in this really bad rainy windy day then all of a sudden he flies off as to say I am getting to wet here
Think the birds had a throw the moss from the roof competition. Garden path has got a few splotches of moss on it. A few worms are out and about after the snow and rain all wriggling about they seem happy
Snow in the morning snow gone by the afternoon.
A seagull was doing a sort of shuffle dance in the sky, looked comical but graceful at the same time.
A thick foggy night , the street lamps add their glow to the eeriness of the night. So quiet and haunting . Greeting the morning to the leftovers of the fog more of a mist now.
Two birds fight over the aerial then both decide to sit next to each other.
The crows in the bare trees having a rest . An other wintery cold grey day. But the thump thump drilling and swear words from next add to the gloom of the day
It snowed in the early hours then in a blink of an eye it went as fast as it came. The snowdrops are beginning to push through forgot about them. Such lovely flowers .
The days have been merging into each other grey dismal wet, but this afternoon a bit of blue sky sun out. Things are looking a bit brighter. A light dusting of snow on distant hills.
Hearing the rain gurgling down the drains Seeing silvery raindrops on the wet and soggy branches dripping merrily. Not hearing a sound out from the birds and not seeing even one bird.
1 robin on fence . 2 magpies sitting on chimney pot which is their new home. A pigeon doing a majestic fly pass so low as well.
Water butt gently overflowing a bit. Upturned dustbin lid filled to the brim so the white and black cat can have his daily drink.
No seagulls at the moment.
You wouldn’t of noticed the seagull flying apart from the flapping of it’s wings as it’s the same colour of the sky grey!
Blue tit and resident robin sitting on the fence not quite side by side . It amazes me that !
