not a good start.

not a good start to the day , cold wet and windy, but after a lovely day yesterday must not complain.
dawn is breaking as i write this and it looks gloomy.

recent storms.

i do hope that the recent storms have been not to bad where you live. they haven't been to bad here. yes a few trees down and fences nothing to major, thank goodness.
been watching my cat rosie sitting in the honeysuckle bush, she really likes sitting there.at the moment the sky is blue a few white clouds scuddering along and beautiful sunshine, but it is cold , that lovely crispy cold.

topsy turvey.

it has been topsy turvey in my neck of the woods. strong winds rain ,grey dank days. this morning i woke up to sunshine blue skies white clouds scuddering across and sunshine.
i have to go and sweep the leaves of my path, well i should do, but loathe to do it, as they make a really crunch crunch sound.  they are from the sweet chestnut tree near me,
the rosebushes near the river where i work have now been trimmed up  and the trees and butterfly bushes in the church yard are getting ready for winter now, all is quiet there now, but the river is babbling along as usual .but the trees this year seem reluctant to shed their leaves, .it been nice to see all the autumn colours for a bit longer.

autumn.

there was a heavy dew this morning which sparkled in the sunshine, as i walk past a little park. it was a cold crispy morning with the sun shining and blue skies. made a change from the grey  rainy weather just lately.
i had a ladybird crawl over my scarf when i was on the bus and then all of a sudden it flew off.
my christmas or easter cactus  has 2 white flowers. it is quite a big plant but only 2 flowers, but i am so pleased it flowered..
the leaves on the trees near me are now dropping their leaves, they have really hung onto them this years. the colours have really been lovely this year.
alas the beech and sweet chestnut trees did not do so well this year, bur never mind there is always next year.
just enjoying this beautiful sunshine.

it has been a wet grey windy few days in this neck of the woods. you can see now autumn is here. the leaves are changing colours .and are dropping.as before there are so many red berries around. still getting a lot of slugs and snails. am doing the slugs and snail dance ,trying to avoid stepping on them.
the squirrels are busy at the moment foraging . the birds have been very quiet ,even the magpies.

grey and chilly.

it has been rather grey and chilly for a few days, then all of a sudden we get a warm sun shiny day . walking pass gardens the last of the summer flowers are beginning to bed down for winter. but where ever i walk i can see loads of red, orange berries.it has been quiet nature wise, everything seems to be winding down and going to sleep for winter.

insects

sitting on the doorstep having a cup of coffee, i was watching the insects going about their daily routine.they were mainly ants , but its was a joy to sit quietly and to watch them. then i got up and saw an earwig, just managed not to step on it.
insects lead busy lives.two ants met up and greeted each other had a little chat then went their separate ways.,the earwig scurried away, the spider just sat in the middle of it's web waiting, waiting.
the weather is nice and warm to be in the garden without a warm jacket on is bliss. enjoying the warm october sun.also the bird song was lovely to hear ,all the different songs out there.

very very small.

the sweet chestnut tree and beech tree have not done very well at all this year ,very poor in fact. the sweet chestnuts  are so small. the beech tree well there was a sprinkling of nuts . it is a shame ,but maybe next year will be better.
walking pass a wall, i stopped and look at the lichen and weeds and flowers that are growing in the nooks ans crannies,i noticed two very very small snails, they look so cute.they looked like they are babies.
woke up to a grey rainy day, but it is still warm and the wind is getting up. october seems to be a windy month.

a little visitor.

i had a small visitor this morning , a little slug. it must of came in last night when i call the cats in. i leave the back door open for a few minutes so the cats can come in, two of them come in no problem ,but the third one she likes playing a game, shall i go in? or shall i not? that's goes on for about 5 minutes, then when i am about to close the door in she comes!so the slug came in. but it left this morning when i let the cats out. i wondered what the slug made of it's visit.was interesting ? did do the grand tour of the kitchen?was it to dry and warm? was the food ok?was there enough food? i will have to leave an questionnaire form for any visiting slugs so that they can fill in and tell me about their visit and if i can improve on the services i offer!
i thought i lost my creeper, but when i bought in the washing i looked over to the wall and saw it is creeping slowly ans it is in it's autumn colours.

understanding goose.

i have got a fairy ring on the back lawn .it's hidden in the grass which is quite long. which i have to cut soon.
geese flew over again and the lead goose was honking out orders, or maybe he was asking the other geese if they where ok. i would love to be able to understand and speak goose. also one lone parakeet flew over squawking like mad, maybe it overslept and was trying to catch up with the other, squawking hang on,wait for me
i saw a lone fox which is not in good condition, it has been reported, but as we know foxes are wily creatures so trying to catch it, it's not going to be easy.

quiet,train shed & recommend.

1.life has been very quiet for a little while, which is good.time to recharge myself.
2.went and helped to put a garden shed up, the bulk of the work was done , it was all the niggerly bits what needed help, as it is going to be a model train shed , not a garden shed!and it's looking good.
3.needed to get some more wood and was recommended a builders yard, which was off the beaten track, and they was very helpful couldn't do enough for us . they also was polite and courteous and even though we didn't spend a lot of money ,we where made to feel like valued customers. thank you lawsons. we shall come again and also recommend you.

the conker has landed.

the horse chestnut trees have finally dropped their beautiful shiny brown conkers. seeing their green prickly cases open and the creamy insides peeking out and the conkers lying nearby, means one thing to me that autumn has finally arrived.
the beech tree near me has begun to drop its bounty, soon it will be crunch crunch time as we walk over them as the beech tree is loaded with nuts and usually there is a thick layer of nuts on the ground.
and finally the sweet chestnut tree is dropping its bounty, and it wont be long and the squirrels will be walking along the fence to get to this wonderful feast.

spider and web.

it's good that i am not afraid of spiders as i walked straight through a spider's web, complete with spider and a beautiful spider it was and so was it's web. i said sorry to the spider that i walked through its web, but it didn't seem to mind, as it started to spin an other one.
the weather in my neck of the woods is grey and gloomy, but warm.
but i have notice a lot of berries red ones, orange ones on my walks. looking in gardens as i pass along i have notice the the plants are beginning to bed down . but there are a few brave ones still out.

out of town again.

once again i went out of town and by train again.there was so much to see,i noticed that the leaves are beginning to change there colours. by the looks of things its going to be a good years for conkers.
the sunset was so beautiful as we travelled through farm land the sky was a pink, mauve grey colour.
nearer to home the other day i walked by my old primary school and the hawthorn hedge is still there, it was so nice to see that it was still there.

river

i had a look at the sweet chestnut tree when i walked passed and saw that there are quite a lot of sweet chestnuts, so it might not be a bad year for them.
the river that i pass when i go to work looks ok, but  it has quite a lot of weed in it and a lot of rubbish old footballs ,empty beer cans etc. its a shame because its a lovely river going through a a lovely village. hopefully it will be cleaned out soon.
then when i was walking home i saw the littlest snails going ,they looked so cute and they were leaving the tiniest silvery trails going.

parakeets.

while waiting for a bus i saw some parakeets flying over. when i used to take son to primary school, we used to see them everyday day flying over. i am not sure where there go to at the end of the day, but they go to gardens near where i live during the day.
it will not be long and the huge beech tree near me will drop its nuts. and we will be walking on a carpet of nuts, crunch crunch. and the squirrels will be walking along the fence soon to help themselves to the beech nuts. also near me is a sweet chestnut tree , the year before last there was a huge bounty of sweet chestnuts, but last year there was not a lot at all. this year i am not sure looking at the tree .it seems to have more leaves than anything else.
the weather now has changed to more autumnal ,the chill is in the air now and the rain has started. now the tidying up in the garden can start.

skein of geese.

a skein of geese flew over in the early morning. i heard them before i saw them. i would love to know what they were saying. and the morning sky was a lovely rosy pink colour.
i walked past the river near where i work, but really did not have time to look at it properly as my bus came. i have really missed the river, not been pass it for about 3 weeks.
